Blog #17 - The Quiet Labor Floor.
The labor floor has been unusually quiet for the last two weeks, not that I’m complaining, restful days can be a blessing. But I am someone who thrives on movement. I like to keep going, to have something to pour myself into. Sitting down twiddling my thumbs isn’t really my thing.
So today, when the numbers on the board started increasing, I thought to myself, “Ah, here comes the full moon we’ve been waiting for.” Or maybe it’s the back-to-school season, when mothers finally have a moment to focus on themselves and their pending arrivals. Whatever the reason, the stillness gave way to busyness once again.
And isn’t that just like life?
We all experience seasons of quiet, sometimes uncomfortable silence, where nothing seems to be happening, where we feel restless and unsure what to do with ourselves. Then suddenly, without warning, life throws everything at us all at once: opportunities, responsibilities, challenges, or even blessings that feel overwhelming to carry.
In those moments, balance becomes essential. The quiet teaches us patience, rest, and reflection. The busyness teaches us resilience, adaptability, and faith. The two are not enemies but partners, each necessary to shape us into who we’re becoming.
Ecclesiastes 3 reminds us that “to everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.” There will be times to wait and times to move, times to be still and times to act. The wisdom lies in embracing both.
So maybe the quiet labor floor is a reminder for me, for you, that the slow seasons are not wasted. They prepare us for when life picks up again. And when life gets busy, those quiet moments we’ve stored up become our anchor.
If you’re in a season of stillness, don’t despise it. Use it to strengthen your spirit, to reflect, to plan, to pray, or simply to rest. And if you’re in the thick of busyness, remember to breathe, to take it one moment at a time, and to trust that you were prepared for this season too.
After all, life isn’t just about surviving the rush, it’s about learning to embrace both the quiet and the chaos, knowing that each carries its own lessons and gifts.
“Sometimes the silence speaks louder than the noise, and sometimes the rush teaches us what the quiet could not.”
