Blog #16 - Faith at Work

I can’t count how many times I have whispered under my breath, “Help me God,” or “Lord, take control.” It has almost become second nature , not from a place of weakness, but from deep awareness that I cannot do this work, or even live this life, in my own strength.

From the moment I wake up and prepare for the day, I feel the quiet pull to lean on God. In the birthing room, that dependence becomes even more vivid. There isn’t a single second where I don’t find myself drawing strength from Him, whether it’s greeting a couple who have just walked nervously into the delivery room, inserting an IV cannula, or standing right beside a woman who is giving everything she has to bring forth life.

When the pushing reaches its peak and exhaustion seems to outweigh courage, I hear myself shouting, “Come on, you can do this!” But silently in my heart, I’m also praying, “Lord, give her strength, steady her breath, help this child arrive safely.”

There are moments that shake you, taking a baby to the resuscitaire waiting and holding your own breath until theirs breaks through the silence. That first little cry is not just a sound, it is answered prayer, a reminder of the miracle of life and God who holds it all together. And then, the joy of saying “Congratulations” to the new parents never grows old. Each birth feels sacred, unique, and marked by grace.

By the end of a long shift, as I walk back to the car park, there’s a quiet rhythm in my spirit: inhale… exhale… thank You, Lord. His mercy sustained me once again. His presence carried me through every moment, from the first hello to the final goodbye.

Faith at work doesn’t always look like grand gestures. Sometimes it’s the whispered prayers no one hears, the inner strength to keep going when you feel stretched thin, or the simple joy of knowing that God is near in both the ordinary and the extraordinary.

And I’ve come to realize, leaning on God isn’t just for midwives, or mothers, or those in crisis. It is for all of us. In our workplaces, in our homes, in the quiet and the chaos , he is present. He is faithful. And He delights in us calling on Him.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5–6

So whether you’re catching babies, teaching in classrooms, working in an office, or simply navigating the demands of daily life, let faith be your anchor. Breathe the words, “Help me, Lord,” and be rest assured that He hears.

Because at the end of it all, the real victory is not just in what we do, but in Who carries us through it.
